'Guardians of the Galaxy' Movie News: Rocket Racoon Rumors, Casting Call Spoilers, Jason Statham Not Likely, Robert Downey Jr. Update

Comic book movie "Guardians of the Galaxy" has been flying under the radar, but that doesn't mean fans aren't excited for its August 1, 2014 release. The sci-fi action movie has the potential to be a summer blockbuster next year and we have the latest rumors and news surrounding the film. A recent interview with director James Gunn as well as a casting call has provided fans with some spoilers. Continue reading at your own risk.

Not much is known about the movie. However, we do know Zoe Saldana, Michael Rooker, and "Parks and Recreation's" Chris Pratt will be starring in the movie. It also looks as though former WWE superstar Dave Bautista will be playing Drax the Destroyer, a human resurrected as a cosmic fighting machine. "The Walking Dead's" Michael Rooker will be playing Yondu, who is an alien warrior with a Mohawk. Pratt's character Peter Quill is the team leader known as Star-Lord. Saldana will be playing Gamora, a green-skinned assassin.

According to Moviefone.com, the only 100% confirmed actor in the film is Pratt, but the other actors have all been widely reported on and seem likely to play their rumored roles. A recent online casting call revealed some possible spoilers for fans. On the Universal Extras' website, there are casting calls for "The Core," "Being on an Alien planet," "Albino males and females,"Tall Aliens," "The Dark Monks," "Mutant soldiers," "Getting around with no hair," "The Big Man," and "Identical twins." In an interview with director James Gunn, Hey U Guys were able to confirm a lot of new information surrounding the movie. Among the tidbits revealed are that shooting will begin at the end of June, the character of Rocket Racoon will be the "heart" of the movie and fans will find out who is playing him soon, Jason Statham is probably not playing Rocket Racoon, and Robert Downey Jr. is not going to be in the movie.
