UK’s Black Friday to have amazing phone deals

The Black Friday rush is coming closer, and in the United Kingdom, it has become the best time to get a new smartphone. With most flagship lines given a hefty price cut, the choices will be astounding.

Traditionally done to boost the sales of brick and mortar stores, online shops (like Amazon.co.uk, Currys.co.uk and Mobiles.co.uk) have been participating in the event for some time. Some online stores would even have a "flash sale" during the event - that is, sales that are only available for a limited timeframe, like a 2-hour window - which may extend until Monday, usually called Cyber Monday.

Even manufacturer stores, like HTC.com, jump in to provide their deals for Black Friday. As Pocket-lint points out, though the deals themselves have yet to be revealed, shoppers can sign up for the site's newsletter to get updated on their Black Friday pricelist and maybe even get a voucher or two.

According to T3, Salmon, an Ecommerce firm, is forecasting that the Black Friday event in the UK may take more than one day, leading up to a "Black Fiveday" event. It also predicts that transactions for mobile devices will be one of its highlights.

Black Friday is an annual event that started in the United States. Usually set after Thanksgiving, which is every fourth Thursday of November, shoppers began frequenting retails stores as schools and other non-retail establishments give the day off, making a four-day weekend. Black Friday also signaled the start of the Christmas holiday season for the US.

In the UK, the term "Black Friday" originally had a different meaning altogether. Referring to the Friday before Christmas, it meant extra pressure from the Police and the National Health Service (or NHS) as there are a larger number of drinkers on that particular day. Asda (a Walmart subsidiary) wanted to bring the US understanding of the term to the UK, and while some were skeptical, other stores soon followed suit. Black Friday 2015 was one of the strongest sale days for most shops ever.
