Multiple casting calls: Walking Dead’s Michonne as a Dora Milaje in Black Panther

As filming for Black Panther is just a couple of months away from starting, director Ryan Coogler and his team is slowly building up the preparations for the film. Casting calls for the movie are underway, and it may lead to some interesting hints for the movie's plot.

With the working title Black Panther: Motherland, Comic Book Movie has reported that open casting calls were announced to play several parts of the movie. As expected, men, women and children are being sought to populate the nation of Wakanda. The casting call also mentions the need for Asian participants - Korean or Filipino men and women, as the report suggests - to be used on several street scenes.  Interestingly, though, there is also an open casting for people of all ethnicities, preferably with experience with real-world weaponry, for the role of CIA agents.

The casting calls do highlight several possible aspects of the movie. While it was originally reported that the Black Panther movie will take place in the fictional country of Wakanda, the inclusion of Asian characters may hint that T'Challa may be having some scenes outside of his nation. With regard to the CIA roles, though, it could either mean that Black Panther would be visiting the US at some part of the film, or the CIA will lead an assault to Wakanda as consequence to the actions taken on his first appearance on Civil War.

Another preparation is being made in the form of Danai Gurira's training. Known for her role as Michonne in "The Walking Dead", she is now prepping up for her role as Okoye, a member of the Dora Milaje. In her interview with Screen Rant, she refers Okoye as "a whole 'nother thing" from the katana-wielding character she plays in ABC's hit zombie series. She also shares that Coogler took her in not because of "The Walking Dead", as she claims he has not seen any of it. Instead, the director saw her on the 2013 Sundance drama "Mother of George", where she played a Nigerian woman who faces the struggle of becoming a wife and a mother.

Starred by Chadwick Boseman, Black Panther is scheduled to prowl the theatres in February 2018.
