CES 2017: Lenovo Announces Amazon Alexa-powered Speaker, 6TB NAS Box

Lenovo enters into the smart home world after the announcement of two amazing made products. The unveiling of new Amazon-Alexa powered smart speaker and a wireless NAS box was seen at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2017.

The new device is said to be a mash up of an Amazon Echo and Google Home. It is nothing but a blend of Amazon Echo's cylindrical form factor with the Google Home's pastel-colored fabric speaker grill. The available colors options are light gray, green and orange.

According to PC World, the Amazon-Alexa based smart speaker has a base model that comes with a single tweeter powered by a 5-watt amplifier and a woofer driven by a 10-watt amp. It is also reported that Lenovo has plans to launch a special Harman Kardon edition that packs a 2-inch sound cavity for a clearer tweeter and deeper bass.

The Lenovo based Smart Assistant starts at $130, and the Harman Kardon Edition is reported to be at $180. Also, reported that the newly unveiled device from Lenovo will hit the tech market starting from May. 

According to Tech Hive, it is reported that Lenovo's new device will be using similar microphone locations as that of Amazon. The device will have an array of six far-field microphones on top of the speaker to capture user's voice queries and commands from any direction. Also, the device is provided with an added second microphone at the center, so there are eight in all.

The Lenovo Smart Assistant is reported to be powered by an Intel Celeron N3060 CPU coupled with 2GB of DRAM and 8GB of onboard storage. The device will connect to user's home Wi-Fi network with an onboard 1x1 802.11n Wi-Fi adapter. The device is also equipped with a Bluetooth 4.0 radio.

The other device from Lenovo is the wireless NAS box, which includes features like one-touch data transfer from USB storage devices and an onboard DLNA server for streaming media. The Onboard facial-recognition software to organize digital photo library based on faces and an onboard dual-band 2x2 802.11ac Wi-Fi adapter with an auto-sync feature that makes it automatically back-up wireless client devices that are in range are the unique features which this device holds and sets itself apart from other competing devices.

The new wireless NAS box comes with a 2TB and 6TB configurations and it is reported to be having a starting price $140. Stay tuned for more updates.
