Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Release, Specs:Gearing Up For March Launch With 4K Display & Kaby Lake

According to a latest report Microsoft Corporation is planning to launch its next model of the Surface Pro i.e. Surface Pro 5, by March 2017. Although the Redmond-based tech giant is not expected to reveal any specs regarding its upcoming Surface projects, the ongoing speculation has says there will be significant upgrades for the upcoming 2-in-1 device.

Microsoft has launched the Pro 4 in October 2015, so October 2016 seemed like the most credible release date for a new model. However, at its October Windows event, the new Surface hardware was limited to the Surface Book i7 only and the Surface Studio. So everyone is now expecting the Surface Pro 5 in 2017.

According to the PC Advisor, The fact that the next big Windows 10 update, called the Creators Update, isn't coming out until Spring 2017 has led many to speculate that Microsoft will hold back its Surface hardware until then.

The latest leak comes from Digitimes, which claims that Microsoft has given the manufacturing contract for the Surface Pro 5 to Pegatron, which also makes the Surface Studio.

The report further adds that the Surface Pro 5 with have a 4K display, a stylus which recharges wirelessly and will launch in Q1 2017, which mean the first quarter, and it's most likely that we'll see a March announcement.

There was a lot of speculation that the new Surface will use a Qualcomm Snapdragon 635 processor instead of an Intel Kaby Lake chip. The profit of this would be longer battery life, and potentially the addition of LTE for mobile connectivity.

But as we are talking about the Surface Pro 5, which has always been about having desktop power in a portable device, and a seventh-generation Intel Core chip would be the logical choice.

The photo from a developer also shows a wall in Microsoft's building 88, and suggests Microsoft has more than one new Windows Surface in store, so it's feasible that the Surface Pro 5 may go with Kaby Lake, and a Surface 5 (the non-Pro version) might have the ARM chipset.

The Surface Pro 5 will reportedly come on a starting price of $899 for the base model. However, the Kaby Lake processor may not become available before H2 2017 as a result Microsoft may yet again have to push back the release of the Surface Pro 5.
