NVIDIA Shield Portable 2: FCC Leaked Filing Reveals Features And Speculations
Following NVIDIA recent announcement that the NVIDIA Shield portable 2 is underway, fans having wondering what special features and contributions it will bring to the gaming world. This has led to a leak filing of Federal Communications Commission (FCC) which reveals what the handheld device will introduce.
A new Nvidia Shield device was revealed from an old FCC file listings dated back to July last year which showed a device with a similar controller, flip screen and physical parameters as the current Nvidia Shield but with few upgrades in size and physical parameters.
The filing reveals the shell of the highly anticipated NVIDIA Shield portable 2, showing the similar flip screen similar to the initial model, with little modification to the overall appearance. The screen is bigger that the current 5 inches screen and also has a capacitive buttons as well as new control module.
Meanwhile, the dimensions of the new NVIDIA Shield portable 2 appears to be thicker and shorter as it measures only 4.23 inches tall, 2.38 inches thick and 5.46 inches wide in contrast with previous console which is 6.22 inches tall, 2.24 inches thick and 5.32 inches wide.
The FCC leaked filing also reveals that the device was submitted under a 180-day confidentiality bid to the FCC in the summer of 2016 and since the requested time frame is over, the filings have been exposed to the public. It also confirmed that the handheld gaming device has an 802.11ac 5GHz Wi-Fi radio and a Bluetooth Low Energy feature.
The NVIDIA Shield portable 2 features some similar speculations and features with the previous model such as a headphone, an HDMI port and a microSD card slot. It is over three years since the NVIDIA Shield portable was released with Tegra 4 processor in 2013 . It will not be a surprise if an upgraded version of the device is launched soon. Fans are eagerly waiting for the launch to happen.
The Verge also reported that there was there was an FCC leaked filing back in May last year which revealed that an 8-inch Shield table is coming soon. It is also rumored to feature 1,920 x 1,200-pixel resolution from Tegra X1 system on chip, and that the devices have already been undergoing various tests. The developer canceled the device due to the decline in the sales of the tablet in previous years, SegmentNext reported.
However, there are limited updates with regards to the handheld device and it is still not known when the NVIDIA Shield portable 2 will be released. Nvidia is expected to provide an official update to gamers who have been waiting earnestly for the Shield.
