'Will & Grace' Officially Returning To NBC With 10 New Episodes, To Bring Back Original Stars
It has been officially announced that "Will & Grace" is returning to NBC. The network made the formal announcement on Wednesday at the Television Critics Association's (TCA) winter press tour, just few weeks after Leslie Jordan, former co-star leaked the news.
The series revival will consist of 10 episodes and will bring the original stars and creators back to the network during the 2017-18 broadcast season, including Debra Messing, Eric McCormack, Megan Mullally, Sean Hayes, David Kohan and Max Mutchnick.
The director of every episode of the series during its initial run, James Burrows will also return in the same capacity and Kohan and Mutchnick will still serve as the showrunners.
The cast members reunited for a 2016 presidential election PSA, which ignited discussion at NBC between the stars. The election video that reunited all the stars consists of ten new episodes, in which the characters dealt with the politics of Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, according to E!
"We are thrilled that one of the smartest, funniest and most defining comedies in NBC history is coming back," NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt says.
"We started talking with Mutchnick and Kohan about producing new episodes right after they shot the secret reunion show back in September," president of NBC Entertainment, Jennifer Salke added. She continued to say that they were especially motivated by the fact that all four of the original stars were excited about getting back into production.
"Will & Grace" originally premiered in 1998 and ran for eight seasons. The series won 16 Emmys including Outstanding Comedy Series out of 83 nominations. The four stars got Emmy gold for the show which is principally about a single woman, her gay roommate and their eccentric friends.
The stars also earned $600,000 for every episode of the series in addition to the backend. This will be NBC's first new series order for the 2017- 2018 broadcast season, following Fox ratings and buzz with revivals of 24, The X-Files and Prison Break, THR reports. However, there is not yet an officially announced premiere date or production timeline.
Other series that are underway for this season are reboots of Car Wash (ABC), Dynasty (The CW), Enemy of the State (ABC), L.A. Law, Let the Right One In (TNT), Magnum P.I. (ABC), Sneakers (NBC), The Departed (Amazon), The Lost Boys (The CW), Varsity Blues (CMT), and War of the Worlds (MTV) among others.
