The Oscar-winning film starring Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, and Robert DeNiro is set for Blu-Ray and DVD release tomorrow. Like most films, the Blu-Rays and DVDs are complete with bonus features. Most of these features include behind-the-scenes footage, deleted scenes and such, but in rare occasions, you get to see an alternate ending. Though Silver Linings Playbook has warranted a lot of praise and concluded in a nice, poignant way, director David O. Russell had a different ending in mind. (SPOILERS to follow)

This film centers on Bradley Cooper's character, Pat Solitano Jr., after being released from a mental health facility for bipolar disorder treatment. He eventually makes friends with Tiffany Maxwell (Jennifer Lawrence), which leads to a dancing competition and eventually a romance. There is also a lot of Eagles football and gambling (thanks to Robert DeNiro).

The film was a huge success and garnered Oscar nominations as well as a win for Jennifer Lawrence. It was a pleasant story that had its ups and downs but ultimately came to a crowd-pleasing conclusion. But the director might have wanted an even "nicer" ending, which is evident in the alternate ending.

So as you can see, the whole gang gets together for a one final get together before the film ends. It is clearly just adding on to the original theatrical ending, with some humor and bonding mixed in. We even get to see David O. Russell's son get kicked out of the house by Robert DeNiro (as a joke, apparently).

It is a nice little scene but was it necessary? Clearly it was edited out for a reason, and that might have been because it was not needed at all. What do you think about this alternate ending?
