'Overwatch' Chinese New Year Event Leak: Skins Inspired By Chinese Characters To Be Unveiled
It hasn't been a week since Blizzard announced its special Chinese New Year Event that fans have grown more excited about a leak released by a reddit user about the special. The poster showcased four limited edition skins for the seasonal event in China.
According to a report by GameSpot, Redditor hythl0day was responsible for the leak, citing a Chinese player who found the free event through a poster. The poster showed the images of four characters along with text that translates to "Journey to the West limited skins. Year of the Rooster, free trial: January 24 - January 31."
A report by VG 24/7 indicated that some characters will be sporting new limited edition skins for the occasion including Zenyatta who will bear a costume inspired by Buddhist master Tang Sanzang.
Winston will be sporting duds by the popular character The Monkey King, known in China as Sun Wukong. Roadhog will be featured as Zhu Bajie, a Pig Master who is known in Chinese folklore as an apprentice of Tan Sanzang. The final character on the leaked poster was Reinhardt who takes on a skin inspired by river ogre Sha Heshang , another apprentice of the Buddhist master.
Another expected development this month is a new skin for Mei. It can be recalled that many fans were up in arms over her Santa costume that was unveiled next month so Blizzard is expected to make it up to fans by giving her a new one to kick off the year.
A teaser on Blizzard's Korean twitter account hinted that D.Va may also be included in the roster of characters who will get a new skin.
The same report cited a Blizzard source who explained that the seasonal event for the Chinese New Year will be similar to its other seasonal events like Halloween and Christmas. No other details has yet been confirmed by the studio despite persistent rumors and leaked information.
