'The Flash' Spoilers: Keiynan Lonsdale Discuss Wally's Mission To Save Iris
Keiynan Lonsdale, a cast member of TV series, "The Flash" revealed what is ahead for Wally after being tasked by Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) to save Iris West (Candice Patton) from Savitar's prophecy. Lonsdale reveals how his character handles the pressure of the situation.
In the interview with TVGuide, he also gave a tidbit on the continuous evolution of Kid Flash and the Flash's dynamic, and Savitar's scary prophecy. Wally, even though still new to the superhero game, has been entrusted with one of Team Flash's most important missions which is: saving Iris from Savitar's deadly prophecy in the future.
Barry requested Wally to be the one to save Iris at the end of last week episode of "The Flash". This request is going to be very tasking for the young speedster, but Wally is willing to do whatever it takes to save his sister's life. "The Flash" Season 3 midseason finale left Barry and viewers terrified with the vision of the future that revealed the villainous Savitar killing Iris.
The Team Flash, after suffering the consequences of interfering with time at the beginning of "The Flash" Season 3, they must now reckon with changing the future by all possible means, Mashable reports. When asked on how heavy the burden on Wally is, Lonsdale said: "I mean I think that is just a lot of pressure. I think that is a lot thrown on him. But at the same time, he is definitely prepared to step up, and part of him will also be excited at the idea of training with Barry and being allowed to be his full speedster self. It is definitely frightening to him, for sure."
He also teased that because of this ordeal, Wally's relationship with Barry evolves in a nice way. He said he thinks a lot of fans will be delighted to have that dynamic with Flash and Kid Flash. Although Wally and Barry are incredibly different in their personalities and outlook, Wally obviously has a lot to learn from Barry. He has to learn that there are risks and dangers that arise from their powers and that it is not possible to win every fight as there will always be setbacks.
On whether Wally is prepared for the task ahead of him in the upcoming episodes of "The Flash" Season 3 Lonsdale said the task is so heinous that no one can be prepared for something like that but of course, he thinks something will challenge wally and the rest of the team. Wally has not really had to go up against all of the villains that Barry has challenged, meaning, he is still naive about a lot of things but this is also giving him the feeling of freedom and excitement.
Lonsdale stated that he feels that is something that can work to his advantage. When asked about how Wally felt about not being able to protect Iris from the metahuman attack in the previous episode of "The Flash" Season 3, Lonsdale responded saying, he wants to be the hero and does not want to let anyone down, which will be his greatest shortcoming - how secretly judgmental he is of himself.
Although Savitar's prophecy is weighing on everyone's mind, all Wally is worried about is becoming faster and making sure he can accomplish his task properly. Lonsdale believes that since Savitar is a villain, they are still not sure whether what he is saying is the truth and he thinks Wally is trying not to let the prophecy worry him much. "The Flash" Season 3 airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on the CW.
