AMD Ryzen Update: Intel To Announce New Kabylake CPUs To Counter AMD Chips
AMD has almost finalized the roll out of its Ryzen CPUs in early march. The CPUs promise significantly higher performance over the previous generation AMD CPUs. The AMD Ryzen lineup will include quad-core CPUs with four threads going all the way to octa core version with 16 threads.
Intel is reportedly making changes to its CPU lineup to counter AMD Ryzen CPUs. Since Intel has recently launched its Kaby Lake series of processors, the company is now planning to launch newer versions of Kaby Lake CPUs. According to digital trends, Intel is planning to launch unlocked versions of both mainstream CPUs in Core i7 and Core i5 flavors.
Intel Core i7-7740K is an unlocked version of the Core i7-7700. The "K" stands for an unlocked multiplier meaning the CPU supports overclocking with a warranty. This chip is designed to have Turbo Boost up to 4.6 GHz and base frequency of 4.3 GHz. The CPU comes with a TDP of 100W and with 8MB of L3 cache, Extreme Tech reported.
Intel Core i5-7640K is a mainstream Core i5 chip with support for Hyperthreading. The chip has clock speed of 4GHz and it would be one of the recent Core i5 chips to have Hyperthreading enabled. The chip has TDP of 100W and 6MB of L3 cache.
AMD has still not officially announced its Ryzen CPUs and their pricing is still unknown. Intel will adjust its pricing for the older Kaby Lake CPUs to match the prices of AMD's Ryzen, Digital Trends reported. Since AMD is preparing to launch Ryzen with major architectural change, therefore it makes sense that Intel might also revise its strategies and launch some updated CPUs.
AMD Ryzen is priced competitively with Intel Kaby Lake processors and Intel might reduce the prices to match that of the AMD Ryzen chips. All the strategies and decisions from Intel might not effective until AMD Ryzen chips are finally out there in the market.
