With Nintendo Switch coming out very soon, there's a possibility that the supply problem of the Nintendo Classic Mini will be passed on to the new console. Still, hackers are taking the time making changes on the little console, like overriding the default 30 games to put the whole NES library of 700+ games. Now, it is even possible to play Sega Genesis games in the Nintendo Classic Mini.

Sega Genesis is also one of the most popular consoles back in the old days (the 16-bit era). It was developed and sold by Sega Enterprises, one of Nintendo's rivals back then. According to Forbes, with the very limited games available for the system, it is no surprise that hackers will want to add some features in the very expensive and very rare Nintendo Classic Mini.

It is worthy to note that hacking the Nintendo Classic Mini is not a safe procedure and not recommended by Nintendo as it will void the warranty and the device might be bricked when the procedures are done wrong. But for those interesting, "Madmonkey" has made a RetroArch version that can install games from other consoles, not only from SNES and Sega Genesis but also from Game Boy and Game Boy Advance.

The instruction for the Nintendo Classic Mini hack is posted on GBATemp. It is assumed here that the person who will attempt to follow these instructions have done the Hackchi2 hack before. First, download Madmonkey's own version of RetroArc here.

Extract the archive to the Hakchi2 folder and agree to replace the "init" file. Next step is copy additional cores to games/CLV-H-RARCH/core. The next step is copy game ROMS to games/CLV-H-RARCH/libretro/roms. These ROMS will be the play-able games to the Nintendo Classic Mini.

Open "Hakchi2" and be sure to enable RetroArch. That's really it, but if folders are needed, clone and buold Hakchi2 from GitHub then make sure to enable Settings > Pages/folders struction . Custom > show Folders Manager every time. Synchronize and make sure to move RetroArch to where the root folder is to enable the custom folders made.
