Emilia Clarke, James Franco 'Garden of Last Days': 'Game of Thrones' Star Will Play Stripper in New Movie Directed by 'Spring Breakers' Actor
Emilia Clarke is set to star in a James Franco directed adaptation of Andre Dubus III's novel The Garden of Last Days. The "Game of Thrones" star will play a stripper named April who decides to take her 3-year-old daughter to work with her one night. The book itself follows a number of different storylines; all occurring in a Florida strip club a few days before the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. One of the low-budget film's producers is Gerard Butler and filming could start as early as July of this year.
The novel is fiction, but it focuses on what is known about the terrorist group in Florida and what they did in their last days before hijacking the planes. This film adaptation of the book could either stick to the specific timeline or make up another terrorist attack in modern times. Not much is known about this project, but the book is a big help.
The other characters involved are a strip club patron and a terrorist. Of course there is April's daughter, too, who at one point goes missing. The story takes place in just one night.
Known for her role of Daenerys Targaryen on HBO's "Game of Thrones," Clarke also recently finished a stint on Broadway portraying Holly Golightly in "Breakfast at Tiffany's." She also recently wrapped filming Dom Hemmingway, a British crime drama starring Jude Law.
Clarke will also lend her voice to the animated series "Futurama" in the show's second to last episode of the season and also series (it recently got cancelled). She will play a flower shop owner who was born without the ability to smell. Naturally, she falls in love with Zoidberg.
"She falls in love with Dr. Zoidberg - the smelliest character on Earth in the future - but she can't smell him, so it's a match made in heaven," explains series executive producer David X. Cohen. "However, being a doctor, he has the opportunity to perform a nose transplant and give her a sense of smell, which would destroy their romance, so it's a big dilemma."
