Ben Affleck Reportedly Not Playing Batman in New Movie
In an appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" last month, Ben Affleck confirmed that he will be directing aside from starring as the Caped Crusader in “The Batman” film. This was before his pet project, “Live by Night”, which he wrote, directed, produced and starred in, bombed at the box office. Perhaps because of this, recent reports say that Affleck does not want to be Batman anymore.
Ben Affleck no doubt had his confidence crushed by the dismal performance of his last movie, which reportedly cost Warner Bros. a loss of $75 million. Not a few questioned his ability to do simultaneous roles in a big-budgeted movie. Actually, Affleck has already decided to step down as the director of “The Batman” movie and had wanted to just focus on his acting.
Reports say that Matt Reeves has been tapped to replace him as director of “The Batman”. He is best known for his work in “Cloverfield” (2008) and “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” (2014). Recently however, Collider Movie Talk host John Campea revealed that Ben Affleck no longer wants to play the Dark Knight in what was supposed to be his first stand-alone superhero film.
In an episode of the said show, Campea said that Affleck really wants out of “The Batman” and is currently in talks with Warner Bros. to get out of being in the movie reports the Independent. According to Campea, if Affleck won’t be let out of being Batman, then the said movie will definitely become the last time the actor will be seen as Batman.
Although Campea’s statements regarding Ben Affleck and “The Batman” movie come with disclaimers, they do come across to everybody as definitive. He also cited three different sources for his his big reveal. Comicbook reports that there may indeed be talks between Affleck and WB about the former not wanting to play Batman anymore. The rumors surfaced ever since the actor gave up the director’s chair in the movie.
Everything is still up in the air as to Ben Affleck’s’ participation in “The Batman”, which has not yet received an official release date from Warner Bros. according to Express. Thus, his appearance as Batman in “Justice League”, which already finished its principal photography, could be his last time to play the superhero.
