Scientology’s Fate Rests on Its ‘Messiah’, Tom Cruise, According to Leah Remini
Actress Leah Remini has be working on exposing her former church, Scientology. Appearing in "Real Time with Bill Maher", the former Scientologist stated that Tom Cruise could bring the religion down by himself, if he so wishes.
Revered by Scientology as their "messiah", Remini added that the influence Cruise has on the religion is quite big. Church members are often taught that the he is changing the planet singlehandedly by clearing it of 'body thetans'. The "King of Queens" also mentioned that as the "Mission Impossible" actor is a prominent figure in Scientology, many of its rules are bent for the actor, calling it part of the organization's hypocrisy, according to Huffington Post.
When Maher opened up to topic of Cruise ending Scientology, Remini, who left the church in 2013, agreed to the idea. While the idea is there, Cruise actually doing it is quite unlikely though. The star was recently quoted calling Scientology a beautiful religion while promoting his 2016 film "Jack Reacher: Never Go Back", Fox News reported. Cruise also added that Scientology has helped him incredibly in life, and without it he would not know where he would be.
In 2016, Remini published a book about her life inside Scientology, entitled "Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology", where she was a part of since her younger years. After separating herself from the religion in 2013, with its multiple accounts of abuse as her grounds to leave, the actress will have a docuseries in A&E, "Scientology and the Aftermath."
Scientology, on the other hand, has responded to Remini and her recent actions against the church. In an issued statement, it claims that the actress is merely distorting the truth about the organization. They also claim that she is only after the money, attempting to extort the organization by asking $500,000 first, then an additional $1 million.
