The countdown has already begun for the Oscars 2017, and this year we have witnessed something historic, with "La La Land" bagging the nominations in 14 major categories. It is a time for not only celebrating Hollywood, but also celebration for a movie that cherishes Hollywood. The 89th Academy Awards are going to take place on Feb. 26 and the broadcast will take place at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC. Here is everything you need to know about the awards.

The Host: The awards will be hosted by talk show host Jimmy Kimmel. In the previous years the show had been hosted by Chris Rock, Ellen DeGeneres and Neil Patrick Harris. Over his selection to host the Oscars this year, Kimmel believes that it is just his physical proximity with the Dolby Theatre, which might be one of the reasons, as published in Time magazine.

The presenters: According to the tradition of Academy, last year's acting winners-Brie Larson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Alicia Vikander and Mark Rylance-will present awards to this year's honourees. Other than them, previous Oscar winners, Halle Berry and Shirley MacLaine and nominees Hailee Steinfeld and Samuel L. Jackson will also present the Oscars. Chris Evans will be seen repping good old Steve Rogers and Kate McKinnon, as per Mirror.

The Performers: All five nominations under the best original song category will be performed. John Legend will perform "La La Land's" "City Of Star" and "Audition". While, Sting will be performing "The Empty Chair", from a documentary, based on the life of journalist James Foley, who was beheaded by ISIS, in 2014.

What's different at the Oscars this year: Out of 20 nominees in the acting category, 7 nominees are for people of color.

Any records to be broken?: While Moonlight's director Barry Jenkins might become the first black filmmaker to win the Best Director, his movie, Moonlight, could be the first film with a gay protagonist to win Best Picture
