‘Castle Rock’: A J.J. Abrams, Stephen King Collaboration For Hulu

J.J. Abrams is adapting the multiverse of the master of horror, Stephen King, for Hulu. The streaming service has confirmed that they have placed an order for 10 episodes for "Castle Rock". They also revealed the official synopsis for the series but did not say anything else aside from that.

J.J. Abram's production house, Bad Robot Productions, revealed the teaser for "Castle Rock" last Feb. 17. However, not much was revealed by the teaser other than it will involve made of Stephen King's works. Fortunately, Hulu has revealed that the show will stay true to King's genre, psychological horror. It will intersperse between King's most-beloved stories and will be set mainly in the woods of Maine.

"Castle Rock", the title of series, is also the name of the fictional town setting, according to Paste Magazine. "Cujo", "Needful Things", and "The Shawshank Redemption" are only a few examples of Stephen King's works which centered on the town. Even if it was not their setting, then Castle Rock would have been referenced in one way or another in their pages. The Hulu original will not only take up different themes that King tackled, it will also bring together different narratives.

Aside from J.J. Abram's Bad Robot Productions, Hulu and Warner Bros. Television will be involved as well. Sam Shaw and Dustin Thomason will act as overseers for the production. And GameSpot said that the three houses should start filming for "Castle Rock" this 2017. However, there is no word yet as to what Stephen King's role in the series will be. Nevertheless, the prolific author wasted no time in telling his fans about the show. "JJAbrams and I want to invite you to take a trip to Castle Rock. Soon. Be afraid," King wrote on Twitter. In his tweet dated Feb. 18, he also included a link to the trailer.

"Castle Rock" is not the first collaboration of J.J. Abrams and Stephen King. They have previously worked on "11.22.63" which was also streamed by Hulu.
