Floyd Mayweather Fight Vs. Robert Guerrero: May 4 Showdown on Showtime, 'Money' Mayweather Making $32 Million
Floyd Mayweather Jr. makes his return to the boxing ring when he squares off against Robert Guerrero at the MGM Grand in Last Vegas Saturday. Floyd "Money" Mayweather is returning to the ring after a year off and three months in jail due to a conviction in a domestic violence case with the mother of his three children. The WBC Welterweight Champion was once considered one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world as fans clamored for a boxing match between him and Manny Pacquiao. Now, Mayweather must prove to fans, at the age of 36, he is still an elite boxer.
The pay-per-view boxing match between Mayweather and Guerrero will air on Showtime as a part of a 30-month deal with the boxer that, according to Forbes, will pay Mayweather over $200 million if he boxes in six matches. The base salary for Mayweather in his fight against Guerrero is $32 million. Guerrero is making $3 million in the fight.
Despite not fighting for a year and getting up there in age, Mayweather is still a 7-1 favorite Saturday night, thanks in large part to his 43-0 record. Guerrero is no slouch at 31-1 lifetime with 18 wins by KO.
Mayweather changed up his trainers before his fight with Guerrero which could have an impact on the fight. Mayweather went from having his uncle in his corner to his father Floyd Mayweather Sr. According to the LA Times, Mayweather's uncle is suffering from vision problems due to Diabetes. Despite winning his last fight against Miguel Cotto, Mayweather was visibly bruised and battered after the fight.
This fight will be huge for Mayweather to prove he is still the best boxer in the world. His long rumored fight with Pacquiao has already lost all of its steam after Pacquiao was knocked out by Juan Manuel Marquez. However, its not like Mayweather needs the pay day, he seems to be doing just fine without ever fighting Pacquiao.
