'Blue Exorcist' S2 Ep8 Recap: Todou Defeating Yukio's Will, Impure King Is Growing Powerful!
Since the first season, Yukio's growing anxiety and pressure towards his brother has been heavily foreshadowed. It seems that Yukio always has this tension toward his brother. Being an exorcist and having a demon brother (and of demon heritage) is not an everyday thing to deal with for most of the characters, but not for Yukio. And with Todou being annoyingly convincing it feels like Yukio is on his breaking point.
It started out with Rin and gang going to the mountain only to find Master Tatsuma dying. Master Tatsuma's body cannot bear the barrier any longer, so he decided that his familiar, Kakura, needs a new master. And who else is the most qualified candidate at the moment? Of course, it would be his son Ryuuji. After all the arguments, Ryuuji accepted Kakura. They went on to fight the Impure King.
As reported by Anime News Network, the fight between gang and the Impure King is thematically and visually wonderful. The Impure King isn't the ordinary villain in a typical anime. Being humongous mass of flesh and poison is a breather from all the handsome and cool "OP-yet-easy-to-kill" typical villains. The only way to defeat the Impure King is to literally break his heart.
Yukio happened to stumble upon Todou. After some series of events, Todou found out that Yukio is not just an ordinary human and had demonic powers. With this knowledge, Todou tries to manipulate Yukio into giving up his resistance and succumb to his demonic power. Will Yukio let Todou's manipulation get to his head?
That's for next episode to find out. And it seems like majority of the fans are rooting for Yukio's love for his brother to get him through this fight. Reddit user Spark233 said on a Reddit thread that Todou is just so OP compared to Yukio. It is a pretty bad matchup, which makes Todou likely the victor of this match. However, it is too early to conclude. It is stated from Ao No Exorcist Wikia that the next episode would be released on March 4.
