‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7 Premieres In July; HBO Releases Oathkeeper Teaser
"Game of Thrones" Season 7 will return to screens in July, according to actor Liam Cunningham. Ahead of the premiere, HBO has released a new teaser for the instalment.
HBO recently released an in-production sneak peek at "Game of Thrones" Season 7. The short clip opens with the "HBO in Production Now" announcement, before it reveals the Oathkeeper. The preview shows someone holding the sword, although it did not reveal this person's face.
The Oathkeeper is an important weapon in the "Game of Thrones" lore. It is one of the two Valyrian steel swords made of ice. This means it is capable of killing a White Walker. Lord Tywin Lannister gave it to his son Jaimie with the intention of making it an heirloom in the House of Lannisters. However, Jaimie gave it instead to Brienne of Tarth in the Season 4 episode aptly titled "Oathkeeper."
It remains unknown if Brienne still has the Oathkeeper in "Game of Thrones" Season 7. The teaser for the instalment hints otherwise. The brown spots and crinkles on the hand suggest it belongs to an old person. It also appears masculine. However, given that it is an in-production tease, then the hand may not necessarily belong to one of the casts. According to Bustle, it could belong to a crewmember.
Regardless, the Oathkeeper clearly plays an important role in "Game of Thrones" Season 7. This would explain why it gets a special teaser. The sword definitely comes handy especially against the oncoming White Walkers.
Meanwhile, details about the release date of "Game of Thrones" Season 7 remain scarce. The latest update about the premiere came from actor Liam Cunningham. He revealed a July release in an interview with The Independent. He also mentioned there is a special event during the launch.
Cunningham also spoiled Sir Davos fate in "Game of Thrones" Season 7, when he talked about the filming schedule for Season 8. He said production begins in September. This means that Sir Davos does not die in Season 7.
