Superman Spinoff Of “Supergirl” TV Series May Never Happen: Here’s Why

As soon as actor Tyler Hoechlin made his appearance on "Supergirl" Season 2 as Superman, DC fans started demanding that the producers give him his own spin-off show. While the showrunners have not ruled out the possibility of a Superman-centric show happening somewhere in the distant future, they have also confirmed that it is not their priority at the moment.

Tracking the movements of the Man of Steel in Metropolis is not something that Andrew Kreisberg, the Executive Producer of "Supergirl", is interested in doing right now. "Right now, we're working on Supergirl, which is the flagship, and working on a way for Tyler to reprise the role is really what our focus is on Supergirl right now," he told Comicbook.

Hence, disappointed fans at least have one silver lining to look forward to - Superman's return on "Supergirl" Season 2. And since the famously indestructible cousin of Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) does not show up unless there is something big going down in National City, it might be safe to assume that another big bad villain is all set to make an appearance very soon.

Even though the showrunners of "Supergirl" have kept the hope of launching a Superman spin-off alive, it might just be to pacify the over-spilling demands of the fans. In reality, there is a huge possibility that something like this may never happen. There are quite a few reasons behind this theory.

To start with, the showrunners of "Supergirl" carefully avoided Superman's presence throughout Season 1, despite subtle hints of his connection to Kara, because they wanted to make Supergirl the center of attention. Introducing Superman straight away would have undercut the popularity that Supergirl was trying to establish for herself, reports Cinema Blend. Hence, making a Superman spin-off would make the calculated efforts of the showrunners moot.

Then there is also the fact that Superman already has a large role to play in DC's cinematic universe. Apart from its own series of films, it is also a part of the upcoming "Justice League" movie. Hence, it is more than likely that DC would not want two versions of Superman dominating both the small and big screens at the same time.
