'Mayans MC' Casts JD Pardo in 'SoA' Spin-Off; Charlie Hunnam Could Return in Flashbacks
When one of FX's highest rated drama ended, fans didn't expect to see a "Sons of Anarchy" spin-off, but director Kurt Sutter revealed that "Mayans MC" was on its way. The cast members have been announced, led by JD Pardo as the main character. The original "Sons of Anarchy" star, Charlie Hunnam, will not be part of that group in the foreseeable future, but he could return in some flashbacks.
Hunnam starred as Jax Teller in the hit series "Sons of Anarchy", but his character met his death in the season finale. The "Sons of Anarchy" spin-off, "Mayans MC", will take place in the California and Mexico border and will focus on the Mayans, the rival group. What fans are wondering, though, is whether they will see Hunnam reprise his role in a series of flashbacks.
The "Pacific Rim" actor told Entertainment Weekly that he won't be part of the cast, but that he has always admired Sutter's work ever since "Sons of Anarchy" and that he would love to work with the director again. The 36-year-old actor had previously said that his character is definitely dead, but that he could appear in flashbacks on "Mayans MC".
The spin-off will revolve around the story of Ezekiel "EZ" Reyes (JD Pardo), who comes from a Latino family. In "Mayans MC", EZ's dreams and the lives of his family members will be destroyed by cartel violence and, driven by revenge, EZ will find himself in the middle of biker gang wars and more violence.
Aside from Pardo, Edward James Olmo will join the "Mayans MC" cast as EZ's father, Felipe Reyes. Clayton Cardenas will play EZ's older brother, Angel. Richard Cabral will also join the show as Johnny "El Coco" Cruz while John Ortiz will play Esai "Taino" Osorio, the president of the Santo Padre charter and cousin of the Mayans MC president.
Comicbook recently reported that Antonio Jaramillo will be part of the "Mayans MC" show as Michael "Riz" Ariza, the second-in-command. Of course, the Mayans Motorcycle Club will then he headed by Emilio Rivera as Marcus Alvarez. The show's pilot episode will be filmed this March in Los Angeles and it will then premier this fall.
