There have been many speculations about the next Doctor after Capaldi leaves his role. Pearl Mackie ("Doctors") will join the time-traveling alien as Bill Potts, after the death of the Doctor's companion, Clara Oswald, in Season 9.
TV Line reports that Capaldi will depart the show after "Doctor Who" Season 10, together with showrunner Steven Moffat. Moffat will be replaced by Chris Chibnall, who did "Broadchurch", which stars ex-Doctor, David Tennant. The former "Doctor Who" star was even asked whether he could be back as the Time Lord in the next season, but Tennant clarified that he would not reprise his role in the British sci-fi show.
Part of the "Doctor Who" Season 10 cast this time is also Matt Lucas as Nardole. According to Express, the first episode of the upcoming is called "The Pilot." The trailer revealed everything fans want in the new season: Missy (Michelle Gomez), Mars, Daleks, and the Mondasian Cybermen. The Cybermen were featured in the show over 50 years ago and Capaldi's the Doctor will battle them during the season's two-part finale.
The TV series suffered a decrease in ratings recently, but Capaldi said that his last season will refresh the series in ways that will remind the audience that the Doctor is alien, no matter how human he looks and sometimes acts. There's also speculation that the Time Lords' home planet, Gallifrey, will be featured. The "Doctor Who" Season 10 air date is on April 15 at 9/8c on BBC America.
