‘The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’ Sequel Without Rooney Mara Adapts Fourth 'Millennium' Book
After the 2011 film adaptation of the Stieg Larsson novel, Sony will be releasing a "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" sequel in 2018. Although Rooney Mara received an Oscar nomination for her role as the lead character, she will be replaced by another actress. The second movie will adapt "The Girl in the Spider's Web", the fourth book in Larsson's "Millennium" series.
Rooney Mara, who played the main character, Lisbeth Salander, was nominated for a 2012 Oscar for her portrayal of the punk, cybergenius antiheroine. However, "The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo" sequel cast will be entirely different and Mara will not return to play Lisbeth. According to Variety, the producers are considering "The Other Boleyn Girl" co-stars Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson for the lead role.
Fede Alvarez, who directed the 2013 reboot "Evil Dead" and the 2016 "Don't Breathe", will handle the upcoming "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" sequel. The movie is set for an October 5, 2018 release, up against DC's "Aquaman". Alvarez revealed that the movie already has a script. After that, the first thing they're going to do is find the film's Lisbeth.
"The Girl in the Spider's Web" will be the first book in the series adapted initially as an English-language film. USA Today reported that the 2011 "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" movie earned $232.6 million internationally and won an Oscar for film editing. The producers are hoping that "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" sequel will continue to be a hit, seven years after its first movie.
The fourth book in the "Millennium" series, which is the basis for the upcoming sequel, involves a criminal organization called the Spider Society. "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" sequel will revolve around a computer scientist and his autistic son caught in the middle of a war between secret societies. Lisbeth and Blomkvist must work together again to stop the criminals. In the course of the story, they find out that they might be dealing with Lisbeth's long-lost twin sister.
