'The Affair’ Updates: Showtime Confirms Season 4; Noah & Alison Still Haunted by Past Affair
Showtime officially announced the renewal of “The Affair” for a fourth season three weeks before it had its season finale in late January. The announcement was made at the TCA press tour. The series has won for itself three Golden Globe awards including best drama series in its first two seasons. It stars Dominic West, Ruth Wilson, Maura Tierney and Joshua Jackson.
“The Affair” explores the emotional and psychological effects of Noah (West) and Alison’s (Wilson) affair that destroyed their marriages to Helen (Tierney) and Cole (Jackson) respectively. A crime brought these individuals together where the story is told through multiple perspectives.
The third season of “The Affair” picked up three years after Noah’s shocking admission that he killed Scott Lockhart in his murder trial according to Deadline. Noah was still hounded by his past decisions as he attempted to restart his life. Meanwhile, Alison (Wilson) was raising his daughter Joanie with Cole (Jackson) and Luisa (Catalina Sandino Moreno).
Both Noah and Alison were haunted by their pasts. Noah was only a ghost of his old self. Alison’s meanwhile continued to rear its ugly head as Cole and Luisa attempted to start their own lives together. Meanwhile, Helen (Tierney) may have a successful business and a happy home. But, underneath lie the uncertainty of her relationship with Vik (Omar Metwally) and the instability of her children. Helen could not shake her guilt in the events of “The Affair” Season 2.
In Season 3, Irene Jacob joined the cast as the new love interest of Noah, Juliette Le Gall reported by Variety. She helped him process he trauma of his past and made him understand himself better. However, she has her own secrets that she tried to run away from. More importantly, Juliette provided the fifth perspective in the show’s trademark multiple perspective format.
