Ben Affleck Completes Rehab Treatment For Alcohol Addiction, Says Family Comes First
Actor and filmmaker Ben Affleck has revealed that he recently completed treated for alcohol addiction. The actor opened up about it in social media.
The 44-year-old wrote, "I have completed treatment for alcohol addiction; something I've dealt with in the past and will continue to confront. I want to live life to the fullest and be the best father I can be," he said. Ben Affleck emphasized that despite his busy schedule, he went to get professional help for his drinking problem to prioritize his family.
This is Affleck's second stint in rehab for alcoholism. The actor previously sought a 30-day treatment for alcohol abuse in 2001. Apparently, Ben Affleck's family background reveals a history of alcoholism with his father who has since committed himself to sobriety.
In earlier interviews with Barbara Walters, Affleck admitted that he did not have boundaries when he was drunk and that it was dangerous for him, Entertainment Online reported. In 2004, Ben Affleck married his "Daredevil" co-star Jennifer Garner. The actor has reportedly been sober for the most of his marriage until his relapse.
The celebrity couple announced their separation in June 2015 after 10 years of marriage but no divorce papers have been filed. Ben Affleck went to thank Garner for supporting him throughout the recovery process, The Huffington Post reported.
"I'm lucky to have the love of my family and friends, including my co-parent, Jen, who has supported me and cared for our kids as I've done the work I set out to do," he said.
Ben Affleck reportedly relapsed that subsequently triggered his estranged wife, Jennifer Garner to call it quits. The two are currently co-parenting their three children, Violet, 11, Seraphina, 8 and Samuel, 5 together.
Elsewhere, Warner Bros. has announced back in January that Ben Affleck will be stepping down as the director of the upcoming "Batman" movie. However, the actor is still very much involved in the project and is set to star in the titular role.
