'Godzilla 2' Movie Will Feature More Monsters: To Set Stage For 2020 'Godzilla vs. King Kong'
The Monsterverse is expanding and those who have seen the post-credits of "Kong: Skull Island" are now wondering what will happen next in "Godzilla 2". There are hints that the next film in the Monsterverse series will revolve around the company, Monarch, looking for other large monsters like Mothra, King Ghidorah, and Rodan. The 2019 film will set the stage for the final battle in the 2020 movie, "Godzilla vs. King Kong".
After "Kong: Skull Island", Legendary and Warner Bros. are gearing up for the "Godzilla 2" sequel, titled "Godzilla: King of the Monsters". According to Indie Wire, the film's post-credits hint that Conrad (Tom Hiddleston) and Weaver (Brie Larson) will work with Monarch to study or track different kinds of MUTO (Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organism) like Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah.
In "Kong: Skull Island", it is established that Kong is a protector. He goes against other monsters and he defends people. Godzilla in the 2014 remake also fought other large creatures, becoming "King of the Monsters" and savior of humanity. It's not sure, though, whether "Godzilla 2" will continue after those events or will explore Godzilla's origins.
The "Godzilla 2"movie is set for a 2019 release and "Godzilla vs. King Kong" is still slated for 2020. It's not clear what direction the timeline will take. The 2014 film is set in modern times, but "Kong: Skull Island" is set during the Vietnam War. The director is tight-lipped about the setting of "King of Monsters" and whether it will be set in the past or present.
What's for sure, though, is that the "Godzilla 2" cast now includes Millie Bobby Brown ("Stranger Things"), O'Shea Jackson ("Straight Outta Compton"), Kyle Chandler ("Bloodline"), and Vera Farmiga ("The Conjuring"). According to Empire, Chandler will portray a scientist, with Farmiga as his wife and Brown as his daughter.
The "Godzilla 2" script will be written by the film's director, Michael Dougherty, and Zach Shields. Not a lot is known about the actual plot of the film yet or whether it will be set sometime in the past or in the present. The movie's release date is on March 22, 2019.
