'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' Cast Reunites After 20 Years; Actors Talk About Buffy-Angel Romance
The "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" cast reunited recently for the show's 20th anniversary. The cast members had their photos taken and shared about the things they'd been doing after the series ended. Creator Joss Whedon talked about the TV series' legacy and actress Sarah Michelle Gellar finally revealed which male love interest she wanted for Buffy.
After two decades, the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" reunion in 2017 finally happened. Entertainment Weekly reached out to the former cast members and creator Joss Whedon to get photo shoots for the TV show's 20th anniversary. Whedon said it felt like a high school reunion, except that everybody else still looked good.
The "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" TV series started in 1997 and ended in 2003. It revolved around Buffy Summers, a high school student who found out that she was a Slayer. The story followed Buffy as she navigated growing up and fulfilling her destiny. The show also featured an ensemble cast of vampires, witches, demons, and other supernatural creatures.
Often hailed as one of the best TV shows of all time, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" received a lot of positive feedback. One of the show's unanswered questions, though, is: Which guy did Buffy like more, Angel or Spike? At the end of the series, Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) did not end up with anyone, freeing her to move on with her life after Spike's (James Marsters) sacrifice. Angel (David Boreanaz) himself had his own spin-off by then.
During the EW photo shoot, Gellar admitted that she preferred Angel for Buffy. Whedon also said that Buffy and Angel's story was legendary and that, for him, it was the best romantic story he created. Whedon was also asked whether "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" would make a comeback to TV.
"The Avengers" director said that he had no intentions of rebooting or continuing the TV series. He said that he wanted to preserve the show's legacy and that it was more important to create new things. In fact, there will be a series of YA novels about other Slayers featured in the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" finale, "Chosen", according to Nerdist. The "Slayers" series will be written by Kiersten White and will be published later in 2018.
The "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" cast members that made it to the photo shoot were Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy), Michelle Trachtenberg (Dawn), David Boreanaz (Angel), James Marsters (Spike), Alyson Hannigan (Willow), Nicholas Brendan (Xander), Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia), Kristine Sutherland (Joyce), Seth Green (Oz), Alexis Denisof (Wesley), Emma Caulfield (Anya), and Amber Benson (Tara).
