Game of Thrones Season 3 News: Fantasy Series Character has Faster Rising Baby Name, Actress Maisie Williams Talks Arya Stark
The Social Security Administration released their annual list of top baby names this week and it looks like a certain Game of Thrones character's name has caught some attention since the previous year. According to the 2012 baby name list, Arya has moved up from the rank 711 to 413 in one year. That jump makes it the fastest rising baby name in the United States. Do you think actress Maisie Williams who portrays Arya Stark on the HBO series has anything to say about this news? She at least has a lot to say about seasons 2 and 3!
Arya Stark is one of Game of Thrones' most captivating characters and that is all thanks to actress Maisie Williams' job in portraying her. In the second season of the successful HBO series, the writers decided to go against the grain and have two characters that don't interact in the George R.R. Martin novels of which the show is based on. Arya Stark meets and often converses with Lord Tywin Lannister, a sworn enemy in her eyes. Though it was not in the book, fans loved the conversations between the two and those scenes were considered the best of the season.
Charles Dance, who plays Lannister, is a 65-year-old stage actor and Williams was only 14 years old when they had to film their scenes together. Back in March, before the premier of the third season, Williams got spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the upcoming season and her scenes with Dance.
"He introduced himself and said, 'Hello, I'm Charlie,' and I'm all, 'No you're not!'" Williams recalled, "He commands such respect when he walks in a room. But I could only call him Charlie."
This season Arya is not in Lannister's captivity anymore and Williams says that Arya is "starting to stand up for herself. "And she's starting to realize that most people don't stick to their word. People don't always do what they say they're going to do. But if everybody else is going to do that, I can too."
"Arya last season she had a great storyline not much actually happened - she didn't move North very much," she said. "This season there's a lot more happening. She meets a lot more people there's a lot more twists and turns."
