‘All Eyez On Me’ Official Trailer Review: Untold Story Of Tupac Shakur - The ‘Revolutionary’
CODEBLACK Films dropped the first official trailer of "All Eyez On Me," the biopic of Tupac Shakur that traces the untold story of how he became the legend that he is known today. While people were skeptical about whether the movie would do justice to the rapper's life, the trailer has removed all doubts in everyone's minds.
"All Eyez On Me" does not merely delve into how Shakur became a legendary rapper, but a "revolutionary" figure for the African-American community in the 80s-90s who is the leading civil activists at the time. It focuses on his childhood and teenage years, all the way up to the day of his untimely death in a mysterious shooting, Screen Rant reported.
The movie explores the dark and scandalous path that Shakur eventually traversed upon, which had started simply with the urge to educate and inspire the young minds of his community. The uncanny resemblance of the young actor, Demetrius Shipp Jr. to Shakur has to be seen to be believed. The main cast also includes newcomers, who have proven their talent in the small screen. Danai Gurira and Lauren Cohan from "The Walking Dead" and Kat Graham from "The Vampire Diaries" shine through in the "All Eyes On Me" trailer, Perez Hilton reported.
"All Eyez On Me" has been in production since 2011, produced by Morgan Creek Productions, even though Shakur's mother, Afeni Shakur, has been credited as the executive producer in the movie. The movie was embroiled in an array of controversies from the beginning, mainly due to the lawsuit filed by Creek against Mrs. Shakur, regarding the procurement of rights to her son's music.
"The people involved aren't really respectful of the legacy of Tupac," wrote John Singleton, who was initially supposed to be the movie's director and has worked with Shakur in "Poetic Justice" in the past. Hence, even though the trailer of the "All Eyez On Me" looks promising enough, fans are divided in their opinion about the movie. Some of the most loyal supporters of the legendary rapper may choose to boycott the shady production behind the movie, which could spell trouble for "All Eyez On Me" when it comes to becoming a box office success.
Movies that largely give voice to the minority communities are all the rage in the United States at present, leading to the resounding successes of "Hidden Figures and "Straight Outta Compton." Hence expectations run high from the upcoming Shakur biopic that releases on his birthday, June 16.
