Kendall Jenner Looks To Kardashians To Get Out Of Pepsi Ad Fiasco; Claims Not To Be Complicit
Kendall Jenner is being excessively trolled on social media, all because she starred in a Pepsi commercial. Even though the ad in question has since been retracted, it sparked outrage among the African-American community. Jenner is seeking the help of the Kardashians and "momager" Kris Jenner to advise her on how best to handle the nightmarish situation.
The Pepsi commercial portrayed Jenner as a highly successful model who was beckoned to participate in what looked like a "Black Lives Matter" rally. However she ended up going up to a police officer guarding the barricades and usher in peace just by offering him a can of Pepsi. Unaware of the backlash that it would lead to, Victoria's Secret model even excitedly posted the ad on Twitter.
Within minutes of the Pepsi ad going Live on YouTube, people started expressing their outrage via comments and memes that focused on the ludicrousness of the commercial. Pepsi was branded as insensitive for trivializing not only "Black Lives Matter" but police brutality, which has become a serious issue in the United States in the past year.
Even though Pepsi pulled the commercial from every outlet within days and issued a public apology to Jenner for involving her in the mess, people have not stopped accusing the 21-year-old model on social media. Some rumors also claim that she might be complicit in the entire theme design that caused the commercial to backfire in the first place, USA Today reported.
However, sources close to Jenner told People that she was not involved at all in the creative process of making the advertisement and that she was merely asked to act in it. Nevertheless, Victoria's Secret model never thought that she will find herself in this sticky situation and she has reportedly turned to her step-sisters, the Kardashians, and her mother to get her out of the nightmare.
"She has no desire to be a part of something controversial," said the source. "She is very aware of the backlash and [is] not happy. They are coming up with a plan on how to deal with it. She has been talking to [her mother] about it."
The source further added that Jenner agreed to do the commercial only because Pepsi was a trusted brand, which was recognized all over the world and getting a gig with such a brand would have meant wonders for her career. She had no idea that it would backfire so badly and turn an entire community against her.
