Lady Gaga Debuts ‘The Cure’ at Coachella; ‘Born This Way’ Singer Subs for Beyonce as Headliner
Lady Gaga took the center stage at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on Saturday and surprised the crowd with a new song. About 45 minutes into her set, she performed “The Cure” for the very first time. She told the crowd that they cure her every time with their love and they help sustain her during difficult times.
Wearing a black police hat and leather trench coat, this year’s Coachella headliner appeared onstage at 11:30 pm. Lady Gaga opened with “SchieBe” from her “Born This Way” album reports People. She immediately followed it with “LoveGame” where she ditched he hat and coat. She also encouraged the crowd to sing along with her.
Lady Gaga remained interactive with the Coachella crowd and real throughout her set, often stopping in the middle of the songs only to tell the crowd that she loved them. She also shared anecdotes and some random thoughts. While singing another hit, “Edge of Glory,” Gaga often paused as she tried to wrestle her sweatshirt off. At one point, she was seen getting off the stage and high-fiving people at the front of the pit.
Lady Gaga had a total of three outfit changes in her Coachella headliner stint according to USA Today. The first change came after her “Just Dance” number. The second outfit was for her song “Born This Way” where she was in a black leotard with sequined boots. She also had on a matching denim jacket.
The controversial pop queen was drafted to replace the original headliner Beyonce, who is pregnant with twins, withdrew upon her doctor’s orders. When Lady Gaga later performed their collaboration “Telephone,” she fell silent on Beyonce’s part. The song drew some of the biggest cheers along with “Alejandro” and “Born This Way.” At one point of her Coachella set, the Mother Monster told the crowd that they made her so happy that she could cry.
Lady Gaga’s last costume change for the night was made as “Applause” played. She switched into a sheer black bodysuit covered in sequins with black underwear. This is the outfit she used to close her set with “Poker Face” and “Bad Romance”. Gaga will be back for Coachella’s second weekend on April 22.
