James Franco's 'As I Lay Dying' Movie Trailer [POSTER & VIDEO]: 'Spring Breakers' Actor Adapts William Faulkner Masterpiece, Directs and Stars in Film
James Franco has set out to tackle the film adaptation of William Faulkner's classic dramatic novel As I Lay Dying and today we get to see the first trailer for the movie. Franco has directed short films before but has yet to take on a full-length, let alone one so serious as a classic literary adaptation. The film is directed by Franco who also stars alongside Logan Marshall-Green, Tim Blake Nelson, and Danny McBride. You might recognize McBride from Pineapple Express and other comedies, so it will be very interesting to see how he does in this very, very serious drama.
The story of As I Lay Dying is centered on a family transporting the body of their deceased mother and wife to her preferred burial spot. As you can tell by the trailer (and if you are familiar with Faulkner's writing) thing do not go well on this journey.
This trailer is not "Red Band," but there are some instances towards the end of the preview that suggest some unsavory scenes. That said, enjoy the first trailer for James Franco's As I Lay Dying:
Here is a synopsis for the film (source):
AS I LAY DYING is an upcoming drama film directed by and starring James Franco, based on the book by William Faulkner, that charts the story of the Bundren family and their attempts to bury Addie Bundren in the town of Jefferson. It has been selected to be screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival.
Franco stars as Darl Bundren, whose mother has recently died, and whose family is attempting to honor her wish of being buried in a town forty miles away from the family home. Tim Blake Nelson plays the widowed patriarch and Franco's father, while Jim Parrack (True Blood) plays one of his brothers. Danny McBride, who previously co-starred with Franco in the extreme stoner comedy "Pineapple Express," Logan Marshall-Green (Prometheus) and Ahna O'Reilly (The Help) also star in the film.
