'Vikings' Season 5 Year-Long Filming Ends, Fall Release Likely; Sigurd Makes Surprise Return?
“Vikings” Season 5, which was renewed in March last year, has already wrapped up filming 20 episodes. This means that it took the cast and crew a year to film the season. So far, very little information has been revealed aside from the official trailer that was shared online. This opened the new season to fan speculation and theories that mostly revolved around Sigurd’s (David Lindström) death.
Spoilers for “Vikings” Season 5 reveal that it will pick up from where the past season left off according to Cartermatt In the promo released by The History channel, a funeral that can only be assumed to be Sigurd Snake Eye’s is seen in the beginning. He was axed to death by his brother Ivar (Alex Høgh Anderson) during a heated confrontation in last season’s finale.
Fans theorize that if “Vikings” Season 5 remains true to history, Sigurd should have survived the axe hacked in his stomach. This could be explained by the scenario that he may have been left for dead in a river only to be found later by Blaeja (Caitlin Scott). By historical accounts, Sigurd later married Blaeja and had four children.
There is a big chance though that “Vikings” Season 5 might not follow real history as there are no written records of Viking history according to EP Morgan O’Sullivan. He assured fans however that each episode is researched and intended to spark curiosity on vikings among the viewers.
Aside from the theory that Sigurd is alive, Morgan also talked about how ferocious the year-long filming of the 20 episodes had been for everybody involved. He, however, did not say when “Vikings” Season 5 will return on the History channel reports IFTN. The fans are expecting the new season to premiere in the fall. In the meantime, fan theories will only continue to rise as the details for the new season remain a well-guarded secret.
