‘American Idol’ 2013 Recap: Candice Glover Wins ‘American Idol’ Season 12, Finale Welcomes Back Former Contestants, Guest Performances
"American Idol" finally crowned its Season 12 champion after months of competition, eliminations and bickering among the judges.
The competition came down to Candice Glover and Kree Harrison and guaranteed the fifth female winner in the show's history. In the end, Candice walked away with the crown.
And, honestly, it was not a surprise. Kree is an incredibly gifted vocalist and musician who should have a bright future in the music business, but Candice was so good, her voice so powerful, her performances so overwhelming that a loss would have been nothing short of a shocking upset.
But before the show crowned the winner, viewers were treated to nearly two hours of performances, returns and video packages. The Top 12 contestants kicked things off with a performance of The Wanted's "Glad You Came."
Janelle Arthur and The Band Perry got together for "Done," while Frankie Valli joined up with the Top 5 male contestants to perform a medley of his hits.
Mariah Carey delivered a pre-taped medley of her hits, followed by Amber Holcomb and Emeli Sande singing a duet of the latter's hit "Next to Me."
Psy performed his new song "Gentleman" and Keith Urban followed that with his new track "Little Bit of Everything."
Candice Glover and Jennifer Hudson paired up for a wonderful duet on "Inseparable" that was probably the highlight of the night.
Angie Miller and Adam Lambert performed a slowed-down version of "Titanium" but the real treat came when Angie's idol, Jessie J, showed up on stage to sing "Domino" with her. Jessie J then revealed that her appearance stopped Angie from performing her debut song "You Set Me Free," so she invited Angie to do a show with her in London to make it up to her.
Kree then teamed up with Urban on "Where the Blacktop Ends," followed by an Aretha Franklin performance via satellite with the Top 5 female contestants.
Jennifer Lopez took the stage (with some help from Pitbull) to sing their new collaboration "Live It Up."
Finally, Candice and Kree joined forces on a duet of "One Less Bell to Answer."
Candice and Kree then held each other as they waited to hear one of their names. After all the performances and all the waiting, Ryan Seacrest finally announced Candice as the winner, and she performed a tearful rendition of her single "I Am Beautiful" to end Season 12 of "American Idol."
