Mary J. Blige Tax Lien, "Real Love" Singer Allegedly Owes $3.4M To IRS
It is not a good time to be an influential Hip-Hop Soul singer. After Lauryn Hill was convicted of tax evasion and bailed out by Sony (as long as the publisher gets some new music out of her, of course), we have news that Mary J. Blige is being accused of not paying all of her taxes from 2009-2011.
How much does Mrs. Blige owe the IRS? According to the tax collectors and TMZ, exactly $3,426,255 and 43 cents.
Blige isn't merely in trouble with the IRS, however. The woman behind "Real Love" owes $900,000 to the state of New Jersey in back taxes and is in the middle of a Bank of America lawsuit for allegedly defaulting on a $500,000 loan. Blige and her husband were also accused of defaulting on a loan from Signature bank in November of last year.
Additionally, Blige's charity (the Mary J. Blige and Steve Stoute Foundation for the Advancement of Women Now) is being sued by TD Bank for allegedly failing to pay back a $250K loan.
Though, Blige's former collaborator Hill was sentenced to 3 months in prison after paying her back taxes and fines, Blige may be in slightly more trouble if she is convicted, as her financial history may be taken into account.
