Beyonce 'Grown Woman' [LISTEN] [DOWNLOAD]: Amidst Pregnancy Rumors, Queen Bey Drops Pepsi Commercial Song, African Influenced Track for a British Queen
Beyoncé premiered her latest single "Grown Woman" in April with her Pepsi commercial, but did we know that the Timbaland produced track was this fierce?
Beyonce dropped "Grown Woman" Monday night, and its clear that she's representing for the ladies yet again. In true Queen B fashion she morphs herself and image to accommodate the latest trends, while incorporating her personalized flare and identity.
While Bey reminds us that she is "a grown woman" who can do what ever she wants," she also reiterates her Queen Bey moniker, as she sings about her wealth and status as one of the best females in the game. Although the lyrics are matter of fact, deliberate, and direct courtesy of co-writer The-Dream, it is hard not to get lost in the African infused rhythms and man singing in a tribal dialect.
Beyoncé has always been influenced by African culture; she used a dance, founded by a group of African dancers for her "Run This World" video, and she appeared in a European magazine in black face to honor to Nigerian musician and activist Fela Kuti. However, Bey is featured in her Mrs. Carter World Tour ads dressed to mimic British royalty.
If we recall her L'Oreal "True Match" commercial in which she identified herself as French, African-American, and Creole, thus it's hard to understand why Bey would not use her "Queen Bey" identity to immolate African or French royalty-especially since her song and dance are saturated in African inspiration.
Nevertheless, "Grown Woman," is an instant dance classic. The production is top of the line and the lyrics are catchy and honest. What will the accompanying music video feature?
