Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special 2013 [VIDEOS]: Cast Member Jemma Redgrave Describes Character & Steven Moffat's Script, What is John Hurt's Role?
With Season 7 wrapped and Season 8 confirmed, the next chapter in the Doctor Who universe is the upcoming anniversary special. The excitement around the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special is constantly growing as the November 2013 airdate gets closer and closer so news surrounding the plot and characters has been slowly building as well. Series 7 ended with the reveal of John Hurt as another form of The Doctor, leaving a lot of questions for fans. Plus actress Jemma Redgrave reprises her role of Kate Stewart, the daughter of The Brigadier, in the anniversary special and recently talked about it.
Redgrave was featured in season 7's episode "The Power of Three" as the daughter of the iconic Doctor Who character The Brigadier. The trust shared between The Doctor and Redgrave's character Kate Stewart was fluid and fitting for the series, so she has returned for the anniversary special. In a recent interview, the actress talked a bit about the script.
"I think it's an astonishing script," she said. "Steven Moffat is an outrageously good writer and as always with Doctor Who, it's philosophical, it's deep, it's an adventure story and if you're a kid, you're going to be taken on an extraordinary ride. It raises all sorts of interesting questions for anyone who wants to go deeper with it. It's funny and then on a sixpence it breaks your heart. It's just wonderful!"
Maybe most interesting about the 50th anniversary special is the role of John Hurt. As part of the second half of series 7, Doctor Who has released "field reports" from the character Strax. In the latest one, he addresses "The Doctor's biggest secret."
And here is a clip of Hurt's introduction into the series:
