Jay-Z $20M Samsung Deal: Jigga Signing On With Tech Giant, Follows Lead Of UMG

Jay-Z is on his way toward inking a $20M deal with Samsung that is expected to be similar to the deal that wife Beyonce made with Pepsi. The deal is rumored to involve Samsung's upcoming streaming service Kleek and possibly a social media site.

From Page Six:

"The eight-figure deal will be inked in the next few weeks, and is the biggest of its kind. You can speculate that he'll want to develop some kind of new music-streaming service to promote his acts and music on mobile devices."

The move makes since for Jay as he recently uprooted his Roc-A-Fella music label from Sony to Universal Music Group. The move to UMG came after the publisher signed a two-year deal of their own with the Korean tech giant.

Beyonce's deal with Pepsi carried a heftier price tag ($50M) but also allowed Pepsi to have a stake in Beyonce's creative earnings, on top of traditional promotions and advertisements.

Jay-Z has continued to disprove his old line about not being a businessman with a number lucrative entrepenuerial moves in the last several years.

Jigga is largely credited with getting the Nets to move to Brooklyn. However, he has no further say in the future of the franchise as he sold his stake in the team to move on to his next endeavor: a sports agency. His Roc Nation Sports has grabbed several big-name stars (such as Robinson Cano of the Yankees and Geno Smith of the Jets) and is rumored to be heading after several more (top NHL prospect Seth Jones). However, Jay-Z's headlong jump into the sports representation world may land him in hot water if the NFLPA finds out he hand a hand in signing any of the stars he represents.
