Beck New Album 2013: Beck Plans Two New Albums, Official ‘Defriended’ Version Hits YouTube [VIDEO]
Beck's latest song "Defriended" leaked several days ago and an official version arrived online Tuesday but that appears to be just the beginning for what fan can expect in the future.
Sources close to the 42-year-old alternative rocker told Rolling Stone that Beck is working on not one, but two new albums, including a previously announced acoustic album and another record described as "the proper follow-up to Modern Guilt," the last album Beck released in 2008.
"Defriended," a song with an electronic sound, will not be present on either album but fans can look forward to at least one more single later this summer.
Beck plans to release both albums independently, though he previously spent years with Universal Music.
The source described the acoustic album to Rolling Stone "as a small-bore, self-contained work along the lines of 1994's One Foot in the Grave."
This falls in line with what Beck told the magazine in late 2012.
"I have a bunch of songs I recorded about four years ago that I'm hopefully going to try to finish," Beck said. "I'm not sure if it's relevant anymore."
Apparently it's relevant enough as he plans to release the album in the fall.
Beck has scheduled six acoustic performances in the United States this summer, including one with Bob Dylan and Wilco at Jones Beach in New York, another at the Newport Folk Festival and a third at the Treasure Island Festival in San Francisco in October.
He also has plans to perform Song Reader, a book of sheet music he released last year, in London on July 4.
