Nine Inch Nails Tour 2013: Guitarist Adrian Belew Leaves Band Following Fall Tour Dates Announcement, Deletes 'Farewell' Facebook Post

Just a day after industrial band Nine Inch Nails announced the title of its new album, released a new single and announced its Fall tour dates, guitarist Adrian Belew has reportedly left the band.

Belew, who only joined the band earlier this year, left a post on Facebook that was deleted shortly afterwards. It read: "Hey folks, before this goes too far let me say this: I greatly respect trent and the music he makes. no one is at fault. we both agreed it just was not working. I'm sorry to disappoint anyone. that really hurts. but NIN will do an amazing show ..."

Nails is a band that frequently undergoes shuffling in the ranks, with vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Trent Reznor being the only constant piece. Belew's leaving stands out more not only because of the recent big news from the band, but also because bassist Eric Avery left the group last month. For the time being, Robin Finck has stepped into Avery's place.

Reznor hasn't commented on or confirmed Belew's leaving, but Belew left a shorter Facebook message after his first post was removed. "Concerning me being part of the 2013 Nine Inch Nails band: it didn't work," it read.

Belew had collaborated with Reznor before, including albums like the classic "Downward Spiral," but is best known for singing and playing guitar in the progressive rock band King Crimson since 1981. His style of guitar playing often involves creating a variety of unusual sounds, a quality that meshes with Nine Inch Nails tendency towards organized chaos.

Reznor had cited Belew as important in the decision to reform Nails earlier this year.

"I was working with Adrian Belew on some musical ideas," he said in a statement, "which led to some discussion on performing, which led to some beard-scratching, which (many steps later) led to the decision to re-think the idea of what Nine Inch Nails could be, and the idea of playing a show."
