Brian Wilson, Beach Boys New Album: Former Beach Boys Singer Crafting 11th Solo Studio Album, No Beach Boys Reunion Anytime Soon
Former Beach Boys lead singer Brian Wilson is back in the studio recording his 11th solo album, according to Billboard.
Capitol Music Group announced the news through a press release Thursday that Wilson is working at Ocean Way Studios in Los Angeles and will also embark onm a brief tour with former Beach Boys bandmates Al Jardine and David Marks.
The yet-to-be titled album will be Wilson's first original solo work since he released That Lucky Old Sun in 2008. He released In The Key of Disney and Brian Wilson Reimagines Gershwin this decade but those were mostly covers.
Wilson is working with guitarist Jeff Beck, whom Wilson had wanted to work with since 2005.
"Jeff's incredible guitar playing is exactly what I want for my new album," Wilson said in a statement.
Other collaborators on the album include Jardine and Marks, along with Don Was. Members of Wilson's regular touring band, including Paul Mertens and Jeffrey Foskett, are also working on the album.
Beach Boys founding member Mike Love, Wilson's cousin, has not been announced to appear on the album. This is hardly a shock considering that Love sued Wilson in 2004, though the suit was completely dismissed.
Wilson said after the 55th Annual Grammy Awards in February that he does not expect a Beach Boys reunion anytime soon.
"No, I don't think so. Doubt it," he said, according to Rolling Stone.
Love owns legal control of the band's name and brand. He contractually removed Wilson, Jardine and Marks during the band's 50th anniversary tour in Summer 2012. The Beach Boys did release an album entitled That's Why God Made The Radio in 2012.
