'The Frozen Ground' Movie Trailer [VIDEO]: Vanessa Hudgens as Prostitute Opposite Nicolas Cage and John Cusack

Vanessa Hudgens was recently seen in the bad girl flick Spring Breakers and it seems like she is continuing her experimentations with edgy roles now that the trailer for The Frozen Ground has come out. In this thriller, Zac Efron's ex-girlfriend portrays a prostitute who is hired by a State Trooper played by Nic Cage to help track down a serial killer (John Cusack). Though we are used to Cage in a leading, heroic role, this film offers to us some new looks at both Hudgens and Cusack as otherwise interesting choices for these parts. The Frozen Ground hits theaters on August 23.

Fans of John Cusack are used to his roles as a romantic or brooding leading man. In this new film we get to see him as the main antagonist who is a serial killer. Plus Hudgens as a prostitute is a new look at the former High School Musical teen star. Clearly this movie hopes to push some boundaries and it already has just with these casting choices!

Here is the official synopsis for The Frozen Ground:

Alaskan State Trooper Jack Halcombe sets out to end the murderous rampage of Robert Hansen, a serial killer who has gone unnoticed for 13 years. As the bodies of street girls start to pile up in Anchorage, fear strikes a chord with the public. Risking his life, Halcombe goes on a personal manhunt to find the killer before the next body surfaces. When a seventeen-year-old escapee reveals key information about the case, Halcombe is finally on the trail of the killer. But will he catch him in time to save the next victim?
