Psy, Brian May Collaboration RUMORS: 'Gentleman' K-Pop Star Meets with Queen Guitarist to Discuss New Music
Psy did not dine alone today. According to NME, the "Gentleman" singer met with Queen guitarist Brian May for brunch today, and a collaboration between the two might just be in the works.
The rumors started yesterday (June 10), when the Korean rapper, best known for his outrageous video "Gangnam Style," told BBC Radio personality Scott Mills that the two had a brunch date scheduled for today (June 11). When asked if that meant the two were going to pair up for a song together, Psy told the radio host, "Seems like it. I don't know. I'm just going to eat tomorrow, but I'm super excited."
Not surprisingly with the two artists' penchants for theatrics, Psy admitted that Queen was a major influence on him as a young man and that the group still sticks with him to this day. "The band was an inspiration to me since I was 14 or 15 to now," he said to Mills.
Psy wasn't just in London to meet with May. He performed at the Capital FM Summertime Ball this past Sunday.
Though it certainly won't hurt his career, Psy doesn't necessarily need a legend like Brian May's help. After a little over a month, his video for "Gentleman" has reached over 415 million views on YouTube. Meanwhile, his American breakthrough hit "Gangnam Style" has over 1.6 billion hits.
Brian May has kept himself busy, as well. The British musician has become an activist in his home country, lobbying against England's badger culls. Earlier this month, May teamed up with musicians Slash, Shara Nelson and David Attenborough for the track "Badger Swagger," which informs listeners on the issues surrounding the badger exterminations.
Though the brunch could have just been a meeting between two fans in London, the possibility of a Psy/Brian May collaboration is an interesting one. What would fans like to hear from the unlikely duo?
