Jiah Khan Dead UPDATE: Boyfriend Suraj Pancholi Brought in For Questioning for Bollywood Actress Suicide
Suraj Pancholi, the actor and former boyfriend of deceased actress Jiah Khan, was detained by police for questioning in the ongoing case of Khan's suicide.
Khan, 25, was found dead at her home by here mother at the actress's home in Mumbai last week. Although the death was a clear suicide, Khan's mother has pointed her finger at Pancholi for being responsible. Pancholi could be found guilty of abetting Khan's suicide.
Pancholi, 21, and Khan had been dating for nearly a year prior to a recent breakup. Khan's mother, Rabiya, said that Pancholi had promised to marry Khan, which would make domestic abuse laws applicable by law.
Police seized five letters that Khan had written to her mother. In them, the actress claimed to have received an abortion and referred to having undergone "torture." Although the letters don't specify who was the cause of the torture, Rabiya has insisted that it refers to Pancholi.
At the time of the couple's breakup, Rabiya says that Jiah had facial injuries and that Pancholi had sent a "break-up bouquet." The events drove Jiah to suicide, her mother claims.
However there was further drama going on in the actress's life. Khan seemed to be on the way to a promising career, having starred in Bollywood blockbusters such as 2008's "Ghajini" and 2010's "Houseful," but the actress hadn't had a role since the latter. Director Ram Gopal Varma tweeted that Khan had been troubled.
"I don't know the reason what led to this but Jiah was very depressed about her career and scared for her future," he said.
Pancholi's legal team questioned the charges, noting that the couple never lived together and therefore possible domestic abuse laws could not apply.
Pancholi's mother attempted to meet with Ribiya this week, but was turned away.
