Are the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge expecting a baby girl come Kate Middleton's mid-July due date? According to some speculation, the 31-year-old wife of Prince William may have been hinting at her child's gender during her final public appearance at the annual "Trooping the Colour" parade this weekend. Though most Brits have thought the new Royal would be a princess as evident in national bets being taken on the future heir to the throne's name.
Ever since reports claimed that the mother-to-be had a slip of the tongue and revealed her baby's sex earlier this year (it has since been proven to have never happened), people over in the United Kingdom have been taking bets on what the new princess would be named. Many people believe that the future heir to the throne will be named Alexandra but a recent newcomer has entered the race. With only a few weeks left before the Kate's delivery, Charlotte has come into the betting race and is second behind the favored Alexandra.
"There is a month or so to go until the arrival of the royal baby and this is the second significant gamble on this market," said a spokesperson for William Hill, an online betting website. "Coming so close to the due date, you would have to assume that there is something behind this one."
Sources at the Palace insist that William and Kate do not know the sex of the child, and if they do there has yet to be an official announcement on that account.
But did Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, give us all a subtle hint that she and William are having a daughter? According to some speculators, the Duchess' choice of fashion at the celebration of Queen Elizabeth II's birthday over the weekend could have revealed her baby's gender.
Kate wore a pink outfit, complete with a matching hat, during the "Trooping the Colour" parade on Saturday. This has led many to believe that her choice of color was to symbolize the sex of the baby that is due next month.
