'Avengers 2' News (SPOILERS) Joss Whedon Says No Loki in 2015 Sequel? Director Talks Quicksilver & Scarlett Witch, Completed Script Needs 'Fine Tuning'
During a recent appearance on the Empire podcast, director and scribe Joss Whedon spoke a bit about the highly anticipated Avengers 2 film. Considering the film is set for a 2015 release, not much can actually be said about the film but Whedon managed to get some news across. The big story that came out of the podcast was a hint that antagonist Loki would not be returning for the sequel. Whedon also spoke about other characters and the script.
Considering the film is in such an early stage of development, one of the biggest issues is the script. Though he is frequently asked about the script, this time Whedon shared a bit more of the process:
"There's still 'very fine tuning' to do on the script. There are many thing that can be 'plussed' and be better and also, there's some science in it, which means I have scenes where someone says 'Science the sciency science'. So I'm like 'I'll fix that later.'"
So it looks like Whedon has at least completed the first draft of the script but needs to make revisions. That is good news in terms of progress!
But what about the most recent news about the characters Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch being in the film? Well according to Whedon, he is extremely excited about these two characters and their inclusion in the Avengers 2 film.
"Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, very close to my heart because they were Avengers the whole time I was reading the book as a kid. [...] Oh, and sometimes they were 'EVIL' but sometimes they were good. They're very textured, they're very different from everybody else in the mix. They're not there to make things easier on The Avengers but what we do with the group once we've got them is 'squeeze.' The fun I'm having doing that is probably unseemly."
But the big news of course comes from when Whedon might have hinted that Avengers villain Loki mught not be returning for the sequel. When asked if an Old-English word would pop up in the sequel (Loki uses the word "quim" in 2012's Avengers), Whedon responded:
"Everyone is going to be looking for the Loki-Hulk smash moment and you'll be looking for quim. No, first of all, imitating what I did before is the surest way to do it not as well. Second of all, Loki's not there to say those terrible things. Although I do think we should bring the word back, not as an insult, it's just a nice word."
Does this comment mean that Loki might not be seen in the sequel? What do you think?
