Andrew W.K. To Drum 24-Straight Hours at Music Day Festival Along With Questlove, Others
Andrew W.K. will only be playing one set for the Live Music Day Festival, but boy will it be a heck of a set. The rocker plans on playing drums during a 24-hour jam marathon, without taking a break. W.K. will set up at the Oakley store in Times Square on June 19, and commence hammering away. The stunt/epic landmark will probably be the highlight of Live Music Day, granted that W.K. can persevere.
Live Music Day is an online music festival organized by MTV, VH1 and CMT, and is based on the premise that any fan can watch for free online, but will still have to compromise to watch some bands, like a real festival, since multiple groups will be playing at the same time. The Jonas Brothers are one of the biggest of the 50 bands involved, and they'll be the first to perform as well.
W.K. works primarily as a vocalist in his own group, gaining fame and popularity for his many rocking anthems, such as "Party Hard." Still, he first experienced his love of rock music when his parents got him a drum set, and he hasn't quit on the instrument yet.
W.K. will have a series of musical guests jumping in to join him and keep him motivated, as well as providing some inspiration for his creative juices. The Roots' drummer Questlove is the only guest that's been named, but W.K. has hinted there will be more. W.K. is currently on tour along with former Ramones drummer Marky Ramone, so that's a safe bet for a guest slot.
Live Music Day correlates with the O Music Awards, a ceremony that pays attention to artists who best use the internet to advance their music. W.K. is nominated for Must-Follow Artist on Twitter this year.
