Katy Perry: Russell Brand Told Songstress About Divorce With A Text Message?!?
More than a year after comedian Russell Brand filed for divorce from Katy Perry, the pop star is opening up about the ugliness of the act in an interview with Vogue magazine.
The main point to take home from Perry's new testimony is that Brand asked for a divorce via text message. It is part of the unofficial relationship code that you don't break up with your significant other via text, nor even by phone call, so Brand's act comes across as especially awkward. The couple hasn't been too friendly in the year-and-a-half since their 14-month marriage ended.
"Let's just say I haven't heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011," she said.
Brand filed for divorce on December 30, which means he didn't text her to tell her he wanted a divorce, he texted her to tell her he had filed for divorce. Dang, that's cold.
Perry said Brand couldn't handle the notion of her being the boss while she was on tour.
"At first when I met him he wanted an equal, and I think a lot of times strong men do want an equal," she said in a statement that used the word "equal" a lot. "But then they get that equal and they're like, I can't handle the equalness. He didn't like the atmosphere of me being the boss on tour. So that was really hurtful, and it was very controlling, which was upsetting."
Perry said that there were other issues behind the breakup but said she was saving them for a "rainy day."
In the meantime, Perry hasn't been short on celebrity romance rumors. She's dated and broken up with John Mayer, but recent reports suggest that she may be seeing the musician again. Still other reports indicate that Perry is getting close to Robert Pattinson.
She may be hanging out with Mayer because he had the decency to break up with her in person. However it went down, she didn't pull a Taylor Swift and write a song about it.
