Katy Perry, Russell Brand Divorce: Singer Admits Comedian Ended Their Marriage Via Text Message
In the latest issue of Vogue, Katy Perry let out some details of her divorce from comedian Russell Brand and the relationship troubles that led to it. Most interestingly, the "Firework" singer let it be known that Brand ended thier marriage with a text message.
When asked about how bad things got toward the end, Perry replied "Let's just say I haven't heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011."
Perry admits that she was not without blame in the dissolution of her marriage.
"I mean, I have to claim my own responsibility in things. I do admit that I was on the road a lot. Although I invited him time and time again, and I tried to come home as much as I possibly could," she said.
Though Perry claims to have invited him often, it appears Brand rarely took her up on it. Her ex doesn't appear once in the concert documentary Part Of Me even though Perry and Brand were married at the time.
"That wasn't edited to leave footage out - there wasn't any footage of him," Perry claims.
Whatever tore the couple apart has helped Perry come to terms with the guilt she felt about always being on the road. However, Perry is still not spilling on what specifically lead to thier separation.
"I felt a lot of responsibility for it ending, but then I found out the real truth, which I can't necessarily disclose because I keep it locked in my safe for a rainy day," Perry said. "I let go and I was like: This isn't because of me; this is beyond me. So I have moved on from that."
